The AirPeak S1 drone is now available for purchase almost a year since it was first teased. Officially announced June 6, the drone ships with the main plane, four propellers and two batteries.
Sony describes the Airpeak S1 as the “introductory” model in the Airpeak series and claims it is the smallest drone capable of being equipped with an Alpha mirrorless interchangeable lens Alpha camera. Pre-sales of the drone are underway today. Customers can expect drones to ship by December 24, which is a little later than the original timeline of “the Fall of 2021”.
Yang Cheng, Vice President Imaging Solutions at Sony Electronics, says that the Airpeak S1 drone is now available for purchase. The drone’s small size, advanced software features, advanced imaging, sensing and robotics all reflect the high standard that Sony Electronics is known for. It allows content creators as well as commercial professionals to capture images, video, and other media in a way that was not possible before.
The Airpeak S1 is a professional camera for filmmakers and professional photographers. It is compatible with many Sony cameras including the Alpha 1, Alpha 7S, Alpha 7R, and Alpha 9 series. Sony claims that the Airpeak S1 uses proprietary technology to deliver smooth maneuverability at high speeds and high wind resistance. This allows for high-quality aerial photos and video content.
The drone will be sold separately. An optional subscription service called “Airpeak Plus” will cost “around $300” for a 12-month period. There is also an option to purchase a “Protect Plan”. Airpeak Plus, a cloud service that lets users use many features of Airpeak Base and the Airpeak Protect Plan covers accidental damage to the product. The reason why Airpeak Plus pricing wasn’t accurate was not explained, nor was the cost of the Protect Plan.
