PS5 vs PS4 Pro: Should You Upgrade?

Many gamers feel the need to buy a new next-generation console such as the Sony PlayStation 5. Are the new features and upgrades worth it? The answer to this question is yes when it comes down to the new PS5. These are just a few of the many new features and considerations that make this upgrade completely worth it.

Features

Although the PlayStation 4 Pro was the best-selling console at the time, its features have been outclassed by the PlayStation 5.

Formats and optical drives

There are two versions of the PS5: the physical edition or the digital edition. The systems are identical except that the Digital Edition does not have a disc drive. Digital game downloads are a great way to save money while still getting the same speed and processing benefits as the PS5.

The PS4 Pro was not available in a digital-only edition. The Blu-ray optical drive is older and less robust than the Ultra HD Bluray drive in the PS5 flagship model.

Storage internal

The PS4 Pro has a 1TB internal HDD that allows you to save many games, screenshots, videos and save files. This is a great perk for families that share one gaming system with multiple members of their family.

Although the PS5’s 825GB internal storage may appear to be a decrease in capacity from the PS4 Pro’s, this is only half the story. Because it isn’t hampered with a spinning disk, the 825GB SSD on the PS5 greatly improves speed and performance. Although you lose some storage, you get impressive functionality.

Controllers

The DualShock 4 controller was featured on the PS4 Pro. It had the classic PlayStation button layout and a large central trackpad. The PS4 Pro’s rumble technology makes the controller feel responsive, comfortable, and efficient. Gamers are left wondering what improvements could be made to the PS5.

DualSense controller for PlayStation 5 features the same great features as the original controller but with haptic feedback, a larger trackpad and adaptive triggers. These adaptive triggers provide increased or decreased resistance depending upon how hard you pull them. Gamers will love this feature. This small detail can make the gameplay experience more enjoyable, especially for exclusive PS5 games such as Astro’s Playroom built around DualSense.Grey Black PlayStation 5.

Speed comparison

The PS4 Pro was already an extremely responsive console that can display games in HDR. Everything is now even more responsive and fast thanks to improvements to the PS5’s GPU, CPU, RAM, and RAM. The gameplay is smoother visually, games load quicker (sometimes with very little loading time), and there’s no fan noise.

Here are the comparison specs:

PS4 ProPS5
CPUAMD Jaguar, 8 Core, 2.1GHzAMD Zen 2, 8 Core, 16 thread, max 3.5GHz
GPU36 compute units (CUs) at 911MHz, 4.2 teraflops (TFLOPs)36CUs at 2.23 GHz, 10.3 TFLOPs
RAM8GB GDDR516GB GDDR6

Most video games run at 4K resolution with 60 frames per second (fps) frame rates. Sometimes, ray-tracing is even possible with the PS5. Future-proof, the console will also support 8K resolution games once they are released.

Design

The PS5 console is heavier and larger than the PS4 Pro. It is a heavy machine, with a weight gain of over 3 pounds. The increased weight of console gamers isn’t necessarily detrimental as they tend to keep their system in one location in their home.

The PS4 Pro’s appearance is much more similar to previous PlayStation systems. It felt familiar with its sleek layout and matte black design. With its black and white design and more rounded features, the PS5 is completely different. It’s visually appealing, but it feels different from previous generations.

Price

The PS5 top-tier edition costs $499.99. The Digital Edition costs $399.99, which is more affordable. The PS4 Pro’s release price of $3999.99 is comparable to the PS5 Pro’s. However, the extra $100 for the digital-edition PS5 console is worth it.

Games

The PS5 is the clear winner here, as it can play almost every PS4 game via backwards compatible, except for a few random titles that you might not have been playing. Some games received updates by the developers, including the highly acclaimed 2018 title God of War. You can also access the PS Plus Collection, which is exclusive to the PS5, if you have a PS Plus Membership. It includes gems such as Uncharted 4, Bloodborne and God of War.

There are also exclusive games you can only play on the next-gen console or games that look and perform better because they were optimized for it. There’s plenty to choose from: fight bosses and enemies in Demon’s Souls’s remake, explore New York City in Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales, or team up with friends for the charming platformer Sackboy : A Big Adventure.

Takeaway

The PS5 is an impressive upgrade to a long list of Wony gaming consoles. The PS5 upgrade is a simple decision for all gamers who are passionate about gaming.
